Abstract
The designers of today have the grandest toolbox in the history of design, but they now also face the beast that is sustainability. Contemporary design principles for mass production now encompass more than simply creating lasting products that can be reproduced affordably. Designers now must consider the full lifecycle of their products. Where does each material come from? How long will it last? What happens to it after it is discarded? This research intends to explore methodologies to contribute to the conversation of sustainability in product design for mass production. I will explain how I designed each of my products in a way that tries to balance efficiency, quality, accessibility and sustainability.
