Abstract

In this panel symposium, we aim to align perspectives on the boundaries and activities of middle managers to improve clarity in the field, set a future direction for research, and articulate the ways in which management research can benefit practitioners as they navigate the complex changes facing middle managers in organizations. Our panelists will discuss the challenges, relevance, and role of middle managers, particularly in the future world of work. Additionally, we invite attendees to participate in round table discussions at the end of the symposium to generate a roadmap for future research on middle managers. This discussion is timely and critical to position scholars to proactively influence the future world of work through research that generates actionable insights regarding middle managers.
