Abstract

Using Monte-Carlo computer simulation, the expected change in full-time and part-time post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) nursing labor staffing achievable by bypassing the phase I PACU was calculated. The computer simulations generated tables that an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) can use to estimate PACU labor costs. It was found that savings in PACU staff from bypassing the phase I PACU vary depending on how the staff are compensated.
