Abstract

This symposium presents six rigorous studies, each offering novel insights into the cognitive, relational, and performance-related outcomes of MTMs. Together, these studies address a central question in MTM research - how MTMs influence employee outcomes - by examining how factors such as membership model divergence, day-to-day multi-teaming patterns, cognitive complexity, and the quality of workplace relationships shape individual performance, learning, and well-being. Drawing from diverse theoretical perspectives (e.g., social identity theory, personal construct theory, role theories, and social exchange theory), and employing a range of research designs (e.g., multilevel modeling, sequence analysis, diary studies, qualitative interviews, and polynomial regression), the studies investigate MTM-related phenomena in field-based contexts. This session is designed to foster theoretical insights and meaningful discussions, refine current understanding, and shape future research directions.
