Abstract
Using computer simulation, the evaluation of the decrease in full-time OR staff (nurses and technicians) overtime that can be achieved from faster emergence when all patients undergoing general anesthesia at an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) receive bispectral (BIS) monitoring is attempted. Simulation results are presented as the ratio of the two mean values. Simulations show that for mean case durations of 1.0 or 2.0 hours, a decrease per case of three minutes would decrease overtime by 0.9 or 1.1 minutes per case, respectively. A decrease per case of six minutes would decrease overtime by 1.5 or 2.1 minutes per case.
