Abstract
An abstract of a study by Norman and Nembhard discussing the problem of workforce assignment of heterogeneous workers to carious tasks in order to optimize the performance of a manufacturing system is presented. They assume that worker productivity is not static but varies with experience as workers learn to perform a task more effectively when they perform a task more often but become less effective when they perform a task infrequently. Moreover, they compare results of explicitly considering worker learning and forgetting behavior with the results found from only considering steady state expected productivity.
