Abstract
In this book ten essays that consider comics from different analytical proposals are offered. It begins with the study of the comics of the Indian Patoruzú and what they meant in the construction of the Argentine national identity of the 20th century. Reflect on the importance of comics in the imaginary of childhood and Spanish youth during the Franco era. Analyze the impact of the evil characters of the comics, such as Doña Urraca and Don Berrinche, and the symbolic projection of an atrocious reality that was picked up by Carlos Giménez in Paracuellos. He dialogues with American influences in many contemporary Spanish authors, and vindicates Max and Miguelanxo Prado as the pioneers of the graphic novel in Spain. It offers an intertextual reading of the character of Bardín de Max, and delves into the voices of great authors such as Trina Robbins, Aline Kominsky, Diane Noomin, Phoebe Gloeckner, Debbie Drechsler, Julie Doucet and Carol Lay, who built the underground and post-underground map of female territoriality. It also contains a broad claim of the Latin pulse in the alternative side of American comics. And it closes celebrating the multicultural transcendence of the work of the brothers Gilbert and Jaime Hernández and the influence of their female characters in authors such as Jessica Abel.
