Abstract
Glottic cancer arising from the true vocal cords represents the most common subsite for laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma. Unlike cancers of the supraglottis and subglottis, glottic cancers are often diagnosed at an earlier stage and have a lower risk of regional and metastatic disease. As a result, the 5-year overall survival rates for early glottic cancer are favorable and are higher than those for other laryngeal subsites. Management of early-stage glottic cancer has remained relatively consistent throughout the years, with either radiotherapy alone or surgery, with comparable efficacy. There is a wide variety of surgical approaches, including endoscopic and open approaches. However, newer techniques, such as the blue light laser, have been described in recent years. This chapter provides an up-to-date review of the diagnosis, evaluation, and management of Tis, T1, and T2 squamous cell carcinoma of the glottis.
