Abstract
The scientific and decision making water resources communities have made steady progress in developing new frameworks for addressing water issues with integrative and comprehensive watershed systems approach. Nevertheless, there are signs of difficulties in transferring the progress into practice. Among the perceived obstacles are the identification and implementation of the technologies enabling handling of the data- and information-rich environments required by these approaches. This chapter describes contemporary advancements in cyberinfrastructure leading to a new science and management paradigm whereby interdisciplinary teams collaborate in the understanding and managing complex water problems with a vision for long-term sustainability of the watersheds.
