Abstract
Gifted education teachers are often tasked with helping their advanced learners work through career, personal, and social concerns. This chapter explores the common career, social, and emotional needs of advanced learners, as well as areas in which school counselors and gifted education teachers can collaborate to address these needs. Specifically, the chapter outlines the roles of the school counselor and gifted education teacher in meeting students' career, personal, and social needs. Then it shares ways in which readers can use the Integrated Curriculum Model to meet the common standards addressed in the NAGC Programming Standards and the American School Counselor Association Student Standards, including the use of discussion groups, coaching, and other interpersonal strategies. Finally, the chapter concludes with three in-depth example lessons that readers can adapt for use in K-12 settings. These examples serve as prototypes of social skill, metacognitive, and career development activities that benefit from collaborative work among counselors and teachers.
