Abstract
The prevalence of pediatric kidney stone disease has doubled in the past 20 years for reasons that are yet undetermined. For patients who develop nephrolithiasis in childhood, a complete metabolic risk evaluation may be required to identify risk factors for recurrent stone formation. Management of pediatric patients with kidney stones should seek to maximize treatment efficacy and reduce potential harms such as radiation and repeated anesthetics. For those patients who require surgical intervention, the choice of surgery is informed by size and location of the stone, the risk profile of the intervention, and patient and family preferences.
