Abstract
In this response, I would like to comment on some key issues and research directions in the area of organ donation. For the most part, the issues I see as the most interesting are not technical. Instead, I want to focus on the goal of increasing the availability of organs for transplantation. In particular, I will touch on three aspects of the relation between the research in this volume and that goal. I will discuss only the decision to sign a donor card and the decisions facing the next of kin of deceased donors.
