Abstract

Acceleration has been carefully researched over the past 70 years, and findings have supported acceleration as an excellent intervention for academically talented students who are ready. A brief review of research on this topic provides context for our recommendation that acceleration is appropriate for highly advanced students. Several instruments and procedures are available to assist educators in collecting and using appropriate data to inform accelerative placements. Policy is the critical bridge between research and implementing appropriate programs.
