Abstract
There is a general myth that Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI), including children and adolescents, have higher suicide rates compared with other ethnic groups (Hijioka & Wong, 2012). Although the official statistics have shown that the suicide rates among Asian Americans are lower than the U.S. national suicide rates across all age groups, the rates of suicidal ideation and attempts among AAPI youth are very similar to the rates of the overall youth in the U.S. (Suicide Prevention Resource Center, 2020). Suicide recently became the leading cause of death among AAPI youth aged between 10 and 14 and the second leading cause of death among those between 15 and 24 years old (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2021).
