Abstract
Artificial IntelligenceArtificial Intelligence (AI), or Augmented IntelligenceAugmented Intelligence(AIArtificial Intelligence (AI)), is the term for systems capable of making decisions of high cognitive complexity. In health-care, Autonomous AIArtificial Intelligence (AI) systems are those AIArtificial Intelligence (AI) systems that make clinical decisions without human oversight, and where the autonomous AIArtificial Intelligence (AI) creator assumes medical liability (American Medical Association (AMA) Board of Trustees Policy Summary in Augmented intelligence in healthcare, 2019). Autonomous AIArtificial Intelligence (AI) systems are thus different from Assistive AIAssistive AI systems, which help a clinician make better diagnostic or management decisions, and where the liability for the medical decision remains with the clinician (Horton et al. in Telemed J E Health 26(4):495–543, 2020).
