Abstract

Open breast biopsy is occasionally required for excision of palpable benign masses or in the rare event that needle biopsy has failed to yield a definitive diagnosis. This chapter lists the indication, essential steps, variations in technique, and complications of this procedure. A detailed template operative note is provided for both excisional and incisional biopsy.
