Abstract
From the beginning of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic, COVID‐19 posed significant challenges for those taking care of pregnant persons. Early in the pandemic, COVID‐19 was noted to cause more severe disease in pregnant people when compared to their nonpregnant peers, but pregnant people were almost universally excluded from the initial trials for the therapeutics and vaccines used to treat COVID‐19 disease. This chapter reviews the pathophysiology of pregnancy that makes pregnant persons susceptible to severe disease, as well as discuss the epidemiology and screening and prevention measures relevant to the pregnant population. Finally, this chapter outlines what is known about the available COVID‐19 vaccines in pregnancy and review the most up‐to‐date treatment algorithms for COVID‐19 during pregnancy.
