Abstract
In this chapter we discuss the canonical quantization of field theory starting with a one-dimensional harmonic crystal. We take the infinite volume and the continuum limit. Generalizing the result, we introduce the standard 3+1-dimensional quantum Klein–Gordon and Dirac fields. We briefly discuss the quantization of the Maxwell field.
