Abstract
From early reports in the 1960s involving inpatient limited intraesophageal pH assessment to the current ambulatory prolonged pH monitoring modalities, conventional catheter-based pH testing has come a long way and proven to be a reliable, safe, and cost-effective tool in the available armamentarium to diagnose and treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). This modality, among other available technologies, has become the gold standard in the diagnosis of GERD.
