Abstract
Ovarian cancer is a complex malignancy characterized by late-stage diagnosis and high mortality rates. This chapter aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of ovarian cancer, encompassing its pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management strategies. We begin with an overview of the disease, detailing the different types and subtypes of ovarian cancer and their epidemiological trends. The chapter highlights the importance of early detection and the role of various diagnostic imaging techniques, including ultrasound, CT, and MRI, alongside tumor markers like CA-125 and HE4 in facilitating diagnosis and monitoring. Further, we explore the underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms driving ovarian cancer progression, emphasizing the tumor microenvironment's impact on disease development and resistance to treatment. The section on managing recurrence and resistance addresses the challenges posed by drug resistance mechanisms and outlines current and emerging treatment options for recurrent ovarian cancer, including targeted therapies and immunotherapies.
