Abstract
Traumatic brain injury is one of the leading public health crises in the modern era and remains a significant cause for disability and death across the world. While little can be done about the brain’s primary injury, the mainstay of perioperative management of these patients is the mitigation of secondary brain injury caused by avoidable or reversible systemic factors. Anesthesia for these patients includes resuscitation and stabilization in the emergency room on arrival, sedation for imaging, and intraoperative management for decompressive surgeries. This chapter aims to discuss the perioperative anesthetic management of these patients while maintaining the fine physiological balance of the injured brain.
