In this chapter, we describe the epidemiology of chronic diseases and related health behaviors among this population. We then explore social, economic, cultural, and environmental factors and behaviors associated with the risks for cancer and chronic diseases for Latinx persons and the protective factors that can be harnessed to reverse the high prevalence of many diseases, such as cancer, asthma, and type 2 diabetes. We also propose and describe select Health behavior theories that can inform the development of Intervention and provide examples of effective interventions that have helped prevent and control cancer and chronic diseases in the LatinxLatinx population. Lastly, we discuss future priorities for research in the Prevention of cancer and chronic diseases and interventions to address DisparitiesHealth disparities among Latinx persons.
