Abstract
This chapter presents concepts and examples to support an expanded view of test design and development that incorporates the principles of socioculturally responsive assessment (SCRA), while working within federal requirements of assessment systems for state and federal accountability. The principal objective is to articulate both challenges and possibilities that serve to advance fairness in the development and use of large-scale assessments.
