Abstract
Although the incidence of gastric cancer is decreasing, radical distal gastrectomy and total gastrectomy are still occasionally performed. The appropriate extent of nodal dissection has been debated, but recent trials have shown better local tumor control (but no survival benefit) when D2 nodal dissection is performed with gastrectomy. This chapter details technique and pitfalls of distal gastrectomy with D2 nodal dissection procedure. Total gastrectomy with D2 dissection is described in Chap. 38.
