Abstract
Open distal pancreatectomy is performed for pathology localized to the distal body and/or tail of the pancreas, in cases in which laparoscopic surgery is not feasible. This chapter lists the indications, essential steps, common technical variations, and complications of the procedure. A detailed operative dictation note dictation template is included.
