Abstract
Since the Faust Book Historia von D. Johann Fausten (History of the Damnable Life and Deserved Death of Doctor John Faustus), published in 1587, the story of the devil pacter Johann Faustus has exercised waves of fascination. This article investigates the adaptation of the Faust legend in two recent German-language works of popular fiction, Faust, der Magier (The Magician Faust) (2007) by Andreas Gössling and Hannah und der Schwarzkünstler Faust (Hannah and Faust, the Necromancer) (2004) by Uschi Flacke, both of which belong to the genre of historical fiction.
