Abstract
Infant sleep is a vital and intricate part of early development, marked by distinct patterns and various challenges. As infants develop, their sleep cycles start to consolidate, aiding in both physical and cognitive development. During this growing phase, sleep challenges such as night wakings, sleep regressions, and separation anxiety are common. Detailed strategies for establishing healthy sleep habits include creating a sleep-friendly environment, developing a consistent bedtime routine, and promoting self-soothing. The importance of these practices is underscored by recent research linking early sleep quality to long-term cognitive and behavioral outcomes. Although many sleep challenges may resolve with time, it is imperative to know when to seek professional help for sleep issues, recognizing that early intervention can prevent potential long-term consequences. This chapter integrates the latest research and expert recommendations to give caregivers a thorough understanding of infant sleep, along with practical strategies to promote restful sleep for both infants and their parents.
