Abstract
The objective of this chapter is to introduce students to the processes involved with applying for institutional review board (IRB) approval. I discuss what human subjects review is and its purpose, then move on to a discussion of the potential make-up of an IRB and the related roles of the members. Lastly, I describe some of the processes associated with applying for IRB approval and some of the main elements necessary for an application.
