Abstract
Multimodal and integrated skills tasks have become more common in recent decades. They align with current language teaching approaches such as task-based language teaching (TBLT) or content and language integration (CLIL). These tasks reflect more holistic and authentic uses of language than separating out listening or other skills. They have presented interesting challenges for research and teaching, such as defining the construct, developing tasks that reflect multimodal language use, and teaching with multimodal tasks. This chapter introduces multimodal tasks and critical issues that arise in their use. The chapter concludes with directions for listening in multimodal tasks.
