Abstract
Margot Livesey’s modesty pervades this interview: she jokes that Brian Moore may have stopped instructing her out of boredom, not because her story was finished and friends had to persuade her that her novelEva Moves the Furnitureworked. This humility undoubtedly helps explain the escalating quality of her work, since it prods her to not only keep perfecting her craft but also to test her perceptions and assumptions with research.
Livesey’s fifth novel, Eva Moves the Furniture, was aNew York TimesNotable Book of the year, a PEN/Winship finalist, and an Atlantic Monthly best book of the year.
