Abstract
Ischemic disorders of the optic nerve head (ONH) constitute an important cause of acute visual loss. Anterior ischemic optic neuropathy is a well-known disorder belonging to this category. Also, during the past four decades a large body of evidence has emerged suggesting that vascular insufficiency in the ONH may play an important role in development of glaucomatous optic neuropathy [1–11]. Both types of optic neuropathy are common and cause serious visual loss. All this has naturally resulted in the current major thrust of research to explore the various aspects of the ONH circulation in health and disease.
