Abstract
This chapter considers the numerical approximation of optimal control problems for Stokes hemivariational inequalities and introduce the notation and basic results needed. It presents the Stokes hemivariational inequality and a corresponding optimal control problem. The chapter provides numerical approximation of the optimal control problem and show the convergence of the numerical method in a rather general setting. Optimal control is an important research field closely tied to applications in a wide range of areas such as aviation and space technology, economics, electromagnetic waves, fluid flows, heat conduction, robotics, etc. Optimal control problems have been studied for variational-hemivariational inequalities in a number of papers, including where existence of optimal pairs is proved, and applications in solid mechanics or fluid mechanics are illustrated.
