Abstract
Is there a way to overcome diminished ovarian reserve, to possibly reduce the heartache a woman might encounter once she is ready for a pregnancy, after she has beaten cancer, or has found the man of her dreams? In this chapter, we will discuss oocyte cryopreservation, how it came about, and what its current indications are. Offering a woman oocyte cryopreservation comes along with the responsibility to discuss the shortcomings along with the promise of a possible pregnancy at a later date. There are limitations and nuances to the science that should be considered, including the patient’s age, current ovarian reserve status, and her goals, among other things. Educating the patient will help her to make an informed decision of whether or not to pursue oocyte cryopreservation.
