Abstract
The relationship between communication and love is more complex than research indicates. Descriptions of love are often derived from an actional [Sender] model of communication, which has simplistic implications. The interactional model of communication [Sender-Receiver] attempts to place the act of communication in a context with multiple influences, such as the medium of the message, the feedback provided, and the context of the interaction. However, the interactional model fails to realize that an act of communication can shape the reality of a context [Transactional model, where, as in a marriage ceremony, something beyond the actual – “I do” --messages is brought into being by their exchange]. A positively cyclic relationship between love and communication requires better articulation of underlying models of communication where love can be identified as transactional: the communication creates more than it simply enacts.
