Abstract
In her bookWriting a Woman’s Life, Carolyn Heilbrun writes, “I suspect that female narratives will be found where women exchange stories, where they read and talk collectively of ambitions, and possibilities, and accomplishments” (Heilbrun, 46). And what we’ve learned to call literature is our stories exchanged—written down and validated by culture. At the Nancy Drew Conference, the stories lay inside our talk. They sat in the brief biographies people mailed to us with their registrations. For us on the planning committee, the stories had flowed for over a year. For the participants, stories wrapped themselves around the edges
