Abstract
This chapter begins with a brief review of research on key aspects of the talent development mega model with respect to academic domains of talent. It is followed by a discussion of the similarities and differences in the talent development process across the domains of mathematics and psychology, and ends with suggestions for future research. Childhood talent for academic learning is often a precursor or component of adult academic talent, and the importance of high performance in childhood varies by academic domains and for individuals within domains. The correlation between school-based academic performance indexes and adult achievement may result from the fact that the cognitive processes involved are the same in many academic domains. Mathematically talented individuals would benefit from knowledge about the real working lives and careers of academic mathematicians, and students potentially interested in psychology would benefit from knowledge about the various fields that are open to them.
