Abstract
Humanistic play therapy is one of the most widely used play therapy approaches in the field of play therapy. It is also the most well-researched play therapy approach in play therapy literature. Four meta-analytic studies have provided robust research evidence for the effectiveness for humanistic play therapy to general child populations. There have been more than 20 quantitative empirical studies in the literature that specifically explored the effect of humanistic play therapy on racially/ethnically diverse children and families. Despite their small sample sizes, the findings in these studies showed the promising treatment effect for non-dominant child populations. In addition, qualitative studies in humanistic play therapy also provided precious insights to play therapy researchers and clinicians.
