Abstract
What does it mean for a college education to be affordable, and what are the implications of college unaffordability¹? There are no easy answers to these questions since college affordability is conceptualized and operationalized differently across various disciplinary approaches to educational research. In many ways, these various approaches to the question of college affordability are reflections of the struggle over the goals of higher education.
