Abstract
Crises following violence in schools have received a tremendous amount of research and media attention over the years. As a result, a wide range of violence prevention programs, from individual counseling to whole-school approach have been developed and implemented in U.S. school districts over the past several years. This chapter provides an overview of three promising evidence-based programs: social-emotional learning, solution-focused brief therapy, and restorative justice. Although such programs are shown to be effective as indicated in empirical research findings, practitioners, teachers, and school staff members need to also consider the multiple social systems students are embedded in and how they may foster or inhibit violence occurring in school.
