Abstract
The goal of this chapter is to help social work practitioners become informed consumers in the selection, use, and interpretation of standardized measurement instruments. The chapter explores major issues in the development, evaluation, and interpretation of standardized measures, as well as applications of standardized assessment systems that use computer technologies. The chapter further defines what is meant by the term evidence-based assessment (EBA) and shows how standardized measures can be an important part of conducting an evidence-based social work assessment.
