Because open access (OA) publishing systems are rapidly changing and represent significant and growing elements of the scholarly communication ecosystem, libraries need to understand and articulate how they are supporting OA infrastructure, both monetarily and philosophically. At the University of Iowa, our OA pantry was lacking some staples. We needed a clear understanding of how we were currently supporting OA efforts, how funding decisions were being made, as well as a way to determine what types of OA support we wanted to prioritize in the future.
