Abstract
The submental island flap was first described by Martin et al. in 1993 as a regional alternative to cervical rotational flaps. The submental flap is a pedicled flap supplied by the submental artery with venous drainage through the submental vein. Benefits of the submental island flap include ease and reliability of harvest, predictable vascular anatomy, tissue pliability, and excellent color match for external defects.
