Abstract
Total proctocolectomy with end ileostomy is performed in cases of ulcerative or Crohn’s colitis refractory to medical management or for familial polyposis syndromes, when sphincter preservation is not desired or not feasible. This chapter describes indications, essential steps, variations, and complications of this procedure. It provides a detailed template operative note for the procedure.
