Abstract
Ultrasound guidance is the gold standard for internal jugular venous cannulation. It can be used to cannulate the subclavian, femoral, and peripheral veins such as the cubital vein and saphenous vein which are deeper in certain patient populations. Ultrasound can be used to reduce the number of attempts and complications in arterial cannulation as well. Radial, brachial, dorsalis pedis, posterior tibial, and femoral are some of the arteries commonly cannulated using ultrasound. This chapter contains basic principles of ultrasound-guided vascular cannulations as well as description of individual techniques.
