Abstract
Reviews Gibbon's essay collection (Nordiska Afrikainstitutet, 1995, 176p) about the effects of structural adjustment and related political and economic liberalization policies on Tanzania since the middle of the 1980s. Explains that these essays explore both positive and negative consequences, and praises "Liberalised Development in Tanzania: Studies on Accumulation Processes and Local Institutions." Discusses the book's two main essays: C.S. Chachage's study of the mining industry, and Andrew Kiondo's article on non-governmental organizations.
