Abstract

The book "The Temperamental Nude: Class, Medicine and Representation in Eighteenth-Century France," by Tony Halliday (Voltaire Foundation, 2010) is reviewed. The study investigates the question of how social identity is imprinted on the male body in Enlightenment painting, sculpture, and prints.
