Abstract
Reviews the book, From the Other Side of the Couch: Candid Conversations with Psychiatrists and Psychologists by Chris E. Stout.
This book represents a qualitative analysis of psychologists' and psychiatrists' responses to questions about their experiences in graduate school as preparation for the profession after graduate school, their practice, their caseload, ethical and professional concerns, and decisions about payment and its effect on practice. The authors present a rich collage of impressions and experiences from therapists with varied clinical practice. The value of the book would have been increased had a more thorough literature review been provided in the beginning, so that the reader could be better prepared for the uniqueness of the text and the change from quantitative presentation of data about the life of a therapist to a qualitative way of showing the real issues facing a therapist in everyday clinical life
