Abstract
Drs Gilroy and Meyer published the first edition of their popular neurological textbook in 1969. The third edition is divided into 12 chapters grouped by causes of neurological disease. The text discusses neurological conditions succinctly. Liberal use of tables, drawings, and photographs complement the written text. This edition is updated by inclusion of figures of computed tomography (CT) scans and brainstem-auditory and visual evoked potentials. The reproduced CT scans are not from the latest machines. At the end of each chapter is a table of references, including recent articles, which should help the reader to pursue the subject in depth.As with any large text, occasional errors can be found. For example, on page 274, in the discussion of the treatment of patients with delirium tremens, the book suggests administering to patients 5,000 to 6,000 mL of fluid per day with 20 mEq of potassium in each deciliter.
