Abstract
Reviews the book, Conversation: An Interdisciplinary Perspective by Derek Roger and Peter Bull (Eds.) (see record 1989-97147-000). This book consists of a collection of papers resulting from a conference in 1984 at the University of York, England, on approaches to interpersonal communication. The book is extremely loose thematically, and the editors seem to have included the conference presentations as received without exercising much control over themes. For me this particular contributor showed himself much more knowledgeable and persuasive than the editors, to say nothing of the relative politeness shown by each.
