Abstract

The second edition of Occlusive Cerebrovascular Disease was edited by Dr Meyer after the early and untimely death of Dr Thor Sundt. The first edition was published in 1987. This volume is, in part, a tribute to Dr Sundt. Much of this book reflects his many personal contributions to vascular neurosurgery. The book is well written. The text is accompanied by a large number of high-quality illustrations and tables. The orientation of the book is toward surgical treatment of persons with ischemic cerebrovascular disease. Approximately a third of Occlusive Cerebrovascular Disease reviews issues related to carotid endarterectomy (for example, indications, surgical approaches, anesthesia, and ancillary care). The remainder of the chapters cover topics related to other cerebrovascular operations.Much of the information included in this book is based on the personal experience of Dr Sundt and his colleagues at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn.
